Music Video analysis

This video by grop 35 uses many dramatic viewpoints and interesting camera angles. As soon as it starts, the camera is already tipping upside down. This is something I would like to incorporate into my own work, as, as perfectly demonstrated by this group, it makes the difference between repetitive performance shots and a really awesome video. Its panning sideways down musical instruments emphasises the performancey feel to it too.

Mostly there are straight cuts in this video, however there are some softer fades. High saturation gives it a deeper and colder feel. Although its setting is a simple one, its deserlate feel adds to the feel of the video. With its indie feel, the performance, costume and general look of the actor is incredibly realistic.

anamatic

creating our anamatic

We are making the anamatic for our music video at the moment. We have drawn the scenes and shoots we want to use within our video. Our anamatic captures the way we want our music video to look, however, we may make changes when it comes to shooting the footage as we may incorparate different agle shots, for example.

We have now edited to anamatic together. Near the beginnig of the anamatic we have left black spaces between some shots to help create a dark and cold feel. We have used fast cuts and slower ones within our anamatic to create variaty. We have also thought of different transitions while editing the anamatic. The anamatic has come together and we believe it looks effective and will help when we shoot our footage.

Transitions

The tranisitions used within this music video are very effective. The way the room appears to move is original and something we have not seen before and therefore caught our eye. This transitions is something we may use within our music video.

Initial Ideas

STYLEIZED CLIPS

high contrast black and white.

high contrast black and red.

urban hip hop video feel.

VISUALISATION OF CLIPS (in order of appearance):

rapper enters studio. close up of feet (trainers) entering doorway, door shuts. cut to hands with headset and mic. rapper puts on headset (view from the back. Rapper is wearing a black LONDON TOWN shirt with jeans and white trainers. Signals to DJ. Beat kicks in. Still having not seen rappers face, parts of body are shown such as feet kicking and fists in a boxing motion. DJ is shown in background mixing decks and headphones on one ear. When lyrics come in, there is an extremely fast pan from DJ 180 degrees round to rapper, just in time for the first lyric. This will be the first time the face of the star has been shown. During the first verse, rapper is seen in different urban settings. including gang ridden territory. rundown 'hoods and the mixing studio. About 23 seconds in, the beat stops. IT IS ESSENTIAL TO SHOW THE DJ AT THIS POINT. About 46 seconds in there are backing vocals. IT IS ESSENTIAL NOT TO MISS THESE. DJ should lean over to his mic and sing.

During the first chorus, because of the distorted vocals, I feel that the visuals should be distorted too. High contrast red and black (colours depending on the other footage) should be used, possibly with pixelated imagery, although this could be dangerous to use witrhout looking cheap and low budget. Camera work for the chorus may include a circling camera around the rapper with cuts to the DJ on the beat.

At about 1:32, the beat drops along with a lot of the other instrumentals. Again, the main vocals are very distorted, so the video should become highly saturated once again. The childrens voices are clear however. The scene should completely change and be calmed down as he sings the lyrics:

My storys told in London Town,
From the East to the West we go,
And we'll all feel better tomorrow,
____ ____ ____ ____ ______

Also at this time there is a piano that plays in the background. Close up shots of the pianists hands should be seen here, playing piano dramatically.

At about 2:19, the beat drops again. MUST SHOW DJ STOP DISCS!!!. Emphasis on rapper afterwards. This is almost a point of realisation in the story of the song. Must be made out that rapper is realising something. Piano is emphasised again, DJ brings back beat.

At 3:25, repeat of 1:32. Fade to black, fade into different scene, fade again and again and again.

LOCATIONS AND SCENES

Man on the Mood run down graffiti garages

Graffiti under Long road bridge

dark urban setting. Motorbike with no rider in background, framed to the left of the rapper. Headlights on, shining a beam onto a wall of graffiti.

Studio

beautiful sunset, to give contrast and variety.

inside a crap car???

intro should be eerie, and strongest location should be used to grab viewers attention.

Studio Scenes

We are planning on using a studio within our music video. These pitures of kano in a studio capture the feel that we want to incorparate in our own music video.

Alternative setting to normal urban/hiphop genre

We picked this background scenery because it offers a different image. It is a change to the stereotypical urban video. This is an idea we may use within our musicvideo to break down the sterotypical views of hip hop videos and to make the locations more intresting.

spit dat sh*t

we have now wourked out and written down the lyrics. it took hours but there you go...

0.15
Ickle bigger, cartagigga a rolex

Presidential, threatened a magary

High tech, yes nigga took by a heart beat

And you could probably take a pretty chick from a party

But guess what, Time don't wait fo' no man

Upside down till no sound

He dont slow down

Its going, its going till its gone,

It feels right, but they notice when it's gone,

So why can't We all get along

Its peace whenever I turn the mic on,

Its beef whenever I turn to violence,

Its deep in the east, Im deep in da beats

cus I wanna sleep on the beach

and see my nephew see 23

Am I easily pleased? Ummm...

I just wanna clean up my community

0.46
throw a party for the whole street,

Hardly lasting for a whole leap,

Its deep in the music, its a movement,

Now sing along

0.55
La la la la la la la la la la la (Ahhhhhh ahhhh)

1.01
but sometimes you have to fight, struggle, grind hustle

When you get no peace, or too much trouble,

No Range Rover with rims on,

Put your headphones on and sing along

La la la la la la la la la la la (Ahhhhhh ahhhh)

1.17
If you just get by, by the pence,

And aint got no money for the rent,

When your self motivations gone,

put your headphones on and sing along!

1.25
La la la la la la la la la la la (Ahhhhhh ahhhh)

My stories told in London Town,

From the East to the West we come,

And we'll all feel better tomorrow,

When we've all gone home.

1.46
Your time is the essance, rhyme is a weapon,

Metal detectors and lines at the entrance,

And I read the news when my kid got boo'd,

Same show next year - no violence at all,

but No more rapricks academies,

But I'd like to see them shut the Mcleys,

cus, the SHOOT dem down their major look,

At the stage like a page in a cheque book,

DID lose a few G's to the Police,

just to put a show on for the fans to see,

So if you're listenin i'll, speak the lyricin,

NWA style, man stop KILLING them,

Nah, I just wanna make them see,

spit my verses, say my piece,

Get off my back,it will make my sleep

a hell of a lot easier, than this week,

2.18
cus, time of the present, life is a lesson,

Im still learning, time for perfection,

but still giving you fire on a record,

the vinyls rhyme like fireballs,

Yes ive got the roll,

The worlds my oyster, i want the globe,

this d - d - day, you already know,

A K, K, A, N to the O,

2.34
If mummsy's hardly at home,

You and your bro share the same clothes,

working dope 'cos your babysitting,

feel free, sing along to the rythmn

La la la la la la la la la la la (Ahhhhhh ahhhh)

2.49
If you grew up without no dad,

And everything u want, you cant have,

lost loved ones, and you really miss them

feel free sing along to the rhythm

La la la la la la la la la la la (Ahhhhhh ahhhh)

FEEL FREE SING ALONG TO THE RHYTHM!!!

La la la la la la la la la la la (Ahhhhhh ahhhh)

3.19
so the story told in London Town,

From the East to the West we come,

And we'll all feel better tomorrow,

When we've all gone home.

camera shots

this video of one of kano's performances has fades in and out on the DJ in the beginning. The shots pan past until Kano comes on stage. This could be something we may consider doing.

setting and atmosphere

This video by kano has a similar feel to the one we want to try and create in our video. The video shows a city enviroment and this is the scenary that we will use within our video. This city enviroment creates an urban feel. The performer, kano, is also rapping within the video. This is something we will incorparate in our video.

lighting

in terms of colour and lighting we will try to shoot in the style of this eminem video.

The green tint that is present within this video creates a urban feel. The colours appear dark and cold.

There are also very many fast cutting camera angles which we will also try to incorporate into our own work.

once we had looked into kano we decided to pitch for his track 'feel free'. Every one within the group like the track and we all had ideas for our video. Once we had choosen kano and the track 'feel free' we began to share possible ideas for the video and we started to work on our pitch. We also began looking for the lyrics to the song feel free. We done this by sending kano an email on his myspace page asking for the lyrics. We told him about the video we were creating and why we needed the lyrics. We sent this message today and therefore are still waiting for a reply.

once we had decided what tracks we liked as a group we started to look into our choosen artists. We went on to kano's website myspace and listened to more of his music. This gave us a better understanding of the artist. We then looked at kano's pictures which showed us his style in terms of his dress scense. This gave us an idea of the way our performer could look in our video.

Day 1

We have listened to all of the tracks and narrowed our choice down to five songs as follows:

Track 2 - Dreaming - Bassboosa

Track 3 - If Looks Could Kill - Camera Obscura

Track 5 - Got To Be Someone - David Potts

Track 8 - Ballad For The Bleeding Hearts - Howling Bells

Track 10-feel free-kano

Track 13 - One Night Alone - Self Service

If we can find a female performer to act Track 2, it would be ideal, however, we consider Track 5 an equally good track.
